Galvanized steel refers to steel sheets coated with a layer of zinc. Galvanizing is a commonly used, economical, and effective corrosion protection method. Galvanized steel sheets are coated with a layer of metallic zinc to prevent corrosion and extend their service life. This type of zinc-coated steel sheet is called galvanized steel. “Cold-rolled” is short for cold-rolled steel sheet. Cold-rolled steel sheet is made from hot-rolled steel and is generally thin, ranging in thickness from 0.2 to 3mm. Its surface is bright and smooth, somewhat resembling stainless steel.
Cold-rolled steel sheet is a product obtained by cold-pressing hot-rolled steel sheets. Due to multiple cold-rolling passes, its surface quality is superior to that of hot-rolled steel sheets. After heat treatment, it develops excellent mechanical properties.
- Physical properties: Galvanized steel has stronger corrosion resistance, while cold-rolled steel has better drawability.
- Processing: Cold-rolled steel is produced through hot-rolling technology, requiring slightly more complex processing, but it is free of defects. Galvanized steel undergoes rust removal, so pitting or oxidation may occur on its surface.
- Physical properties: Galvanized steel is more corrosion-resistant than cold-rolled steel. Galvanized steel boasts strong corrosion resistance, excellent surface quality, ease of further processing, and economical practicality. However, the drawability of galvanized steel is not as reliable as that of cold-rolled steel. Galvanized steel is also not as easy to weld as cold-rolled steel, as the zinc layer is damaged during welding.
